Question: Who would win in a knock-down, drag-out fight: Better Next Time, or Skeins of Fate?
Oh, my god, what a terrifying thought.
There's no way to know; every Scion in those bands has such a massive bag of tricks at their disposal that it's almost impossible to say. It depends on a huge number of things: who gets to hit whom first, who has the most Legend available, who knew the fight was coming and who didn't, how many knacks and boons were already active before battle was joined, whether or not the Magic-users can deprive others of their purviews, who uses their Skin-Shedding where, Illusions, Army of One, coordinated assaults... it's impossible. It's so complicated it would take collegiate mathematics professors to map its variables.
Better Next Time has three huge wrecking balls (Aiona, Eztli and Zwazo Fou Fou), three badass healers (Aiona, Eztli and Terminus), three super Guardians (Eztli, Sowiljr and Terminus), one Fate-bending magician (Terminus) and one social juggernaut (Sowiljr).
Skeins of Fate, on the other hand, has one huge wrecking ball (Sverrir), two badass healers (Jioni and Yoloxochitl), two environmental badasses (Sverrir and Yoloxochitl), two social juggernauts (Jioni and Vala), one Fate-bending magician (Vala) and one illusionist par extraordinaire (Vala).
In short, they are way too badass as groups to easily work out who would win. Actually, I think it's more likely that that kind of fight would never happen, because Vala and Sowiljr would immediately realize what a bad idea it was and subdue their respective bandmates.
But, for the record, John thinks Skeins might come out slightly ahead. Mostly because Dragon's Breath is a real bitch if, like Sowiljr and Zwazo Fou Fou, you auto-botch your attempt to dodge it.
I want to see this play out, if only because I'd like to see Sophia/Kettila, Sangria/Aurora, and Goze/Will fight themselves. It would be an epic battle for all involved, but I also value our friendships IRL.
ReplyDeleteAll the messes.
Deleteit goes to show that no matter what game you play the archetypes are the same, healers, tanks, and dps.
ReplyDeleteSort of... but then again, not really. Lots of Scions fill several of those roles or straddle their lines, like Sangria being an offense monster OR a tank OR a healer depending on what's going on at the time, or a character like Vivian not necessarily being any of them but still being awesomely effective and cool. Scion actually lends itself quite well to roles that don't fit into those boxes, like psychopomps and illusionists.
DeleteBut those game archetypes do come from the ancient story archetypes of myth, so it's not very surprising that there are many parallels to be drawn between them. :) There's a reason those archetypes are popular in ancient myth all the way up to the present.
Im almost certain, that if no one knows the fight is going to happen(no intel to join battle for aurora) Will wipes the floor with everyone. First two ticks he drops 4 agg dmg dragons breaths that do soooo much damage. Goez survives easily. Sangria survives but is VERY low on legend(does she have enough to pop riastrad after soaking all that dmg?) and sophia "might" be alive depending on their roles for fire immunity, but I think will has her on fire boons so it may be a painful day for her.
ReplyDeleteFrom there sangria probably still kills one or two people on her next action, but then its fire time again.
Goze probably tries to turn off will's fire and fails.
I think it comes down to the guy with the massive powerful aoe getting to always go first and there not being much you can do to catch up after that massive first blast. I think it would be really fun to play out though. Maybe I'll do a post where I play it out tick by tick.
Do it!...
DeleteAlso Aurora could just Illusion bomb Better Next Time to hell. Except for Terminus maybe.. Then there's the magic unloading... FFTB, Evil Eye, Avoid a Fate, Serendipity
losing Mighty Curse as an effective tool is the worst though....
The most epic wizards' duel!
