Question: I checked out your pronunciation guide. I don't know if it's my computer or another issue, but the audio files just say "Invalid Source" to me. Any advice?

Hummm. Are you running the new Internet Explorer, by any chance? I'm seeing some people complaining of that error popping up in IE11 as I poke around a web search, but it seems to be working fine for folks in Chrome/Firefox. It's a very simple HTML code, using the <source> tag. The files are in .WAV format, so they should be readable to any browser.

For the sake of investigation, I just went and tried pulling the pronunciation page on the last three versions of IE, just to see what it would do. IE9 refused to display the files at all, just leaving the space blank as if there were no audio player in the code, IE10 worked fine, and IE11 threw me the same "Invalid Source" error you're getting. Ah, the magic of Microsoft.

It may be an error with our host server not conforming to the correct MIME type (which unfortunately I can't control) or a problem with a setting somewhere in IE, but since your guess is as good as mine, I'm not sure I've got a great fix for you - sorry! I'd suggest trying it in a different browser - I know the most recent versions of Chrome and Firefox work, and would guess that Safari and Opera are probably similarly compatible.

If all else fails, all the pronunciation files are in the /pronunciation folder on our server, so you can always go there and listen to them individually. It's more of a pain in the butt, I know, but at least it works!

Question: In the description of the level 9 power of the Death purviwew, you mention the Hungry Dead template from Scion: Demigod. In Scion: Demigod there is no Hungry Dead template.

Oh, hey, you're right! The template is actually in Scion: Hero, not Demigod, on page 294, where it's referred to as Hungry Corpse (although that particular kind of undead is also referred to as Hungry Dead elsewhere in the Scion books). We've corrected it!

Question: Not a question, but possible mistake I've just noticed - the 'Scathing Retort' Wits knack, it says at the beginning of the description that it can respond to either a normal insult or an Opening Salvo, but at the end that it "may only be used as a follow-up to the Opening Salvo Knack".

Oops, you are totally right. The original version of the knack could only be used after Opening Salvo; we must have failed to remove that last line when we changed it so that it could be used a little more freely by argumentative Scions.

The Pitter-Patter of Little Feet

Question: False Footsteps - isn't that supposed to be a roll of Dexterity or Wits + Survival? Generally rolls should be Attribute + Ability, and your site lists it as Stealth + Survival...

Ah, hilarious! You're right, that's totally a typo. The roll should actually be Dexterity + Stealth or Survival, reflecting that you can use either depending on the terrain you happen to be covering.

Skiing to Glory

Question: Where did you find the story of Sinmora killing Ullr on Ragnarök displayed on your Pantheons subpage? The only mention of her I knew was guarding Laevateinn (Svipdagsmal). Are there any more stories on her?

Ooh, I'm sorry, our bad. There is no mythical story of Sinmore killing Uller and Skadi; rather, that's something that actually happened in our chronicle, kicking off Ragnarok with a prophesied doom, a rather dramatic fight scene and the meteoric destruction of most of the Californian coast. We included it in his god page because there's precious little out there about him, and because it was written a few years ago when we first set this site up and only our players were using it. It's "canon" for the Better Next Time and Skeins of Fate games, but not from any mythological source.

We totally didn't realize it was still there, or we would have removed it - sorry! Please don't get confused; there ain't no prophecy of Uller's death at Sinmore's hands, so nobody has to get all anxious over their favorite frosty god. Uller actually goes completely unmentioned in the Ragnarok prophecies, so Storytellers are free to do whatever they like with him when the ol' Goetterdaemerung hits.

We've removed the offending pseudo-myth and replaced it with Uller's only legitimate mythic story - that of his brief sojourn as king of the Aesir. Sinmore, alas, really does have no role in myth other than as the guardian of Laevateinn.
