Titans, Love, Mystery

It's vlog time! Today, questions from the dwindling stock of backlog we're working through. We'll catch up yet!

Question: Do you think that Scion can be used as a fantasy romantic comedy, but still stay true to the myths? Would a setting like that resemble an episode of Bewitched, or would it look more like a fish-out-of-water romantic comedy?

Question: What stops someone who has The Way from using it outside a Titanrealm to create a path directly to an Avatar?

Question: So Adrasteia is Alison Margaritas' god name, but who was the goddess torturing her into apotheosis? I'm guessing Nemesis, and if so, who sent her?

Question: Do Titan Avatars have PSPs?

Stories are webs, interconnected strand to strand, and you follow each story to the center, because the center is the end. Each person is a strand of story. --Neil Gaiman

  1. I figure that every Titan Avatar has a whole panoply of unusual and interesting powers, in addition to any boons or knacks they might have.

Some Titan Avatars would have a PSP if it made thematic sense, but even those who do not have a PSP still have plenty of other unique powers.

    1. Yeah, I agree. Much like we're leaning toward for gods with Ultimates (who may have some special powers that are "on" all the time), Titan Avatars probably have their own unique powers that are in effect in addition to the normal selection of boons and knacks. They're the biggest bads of the setting, after all, and directly tapped into the primal realms to boot; they've got to be able to do some things that the gods can't.

  2. What is it with your Dodekatheon Scions choosing already extant God names for theirs. First Terminus, now Adrasteia? At least in Goze's case it just got him mocked. I don't imagine Nemesis is very happy at her appellation getting hijacked (I have to mention though that I'm miles behind on the fiction at the moment, so if there was an in-story reason for the naming that I just haven't read yet, I apologize).

P.S. What is Victor Finger's God name?

    1. Adrasteia is one of Nemesis' epithets, but it's not exclusively her name, either. It was also the name of the nymph who hid Zeus from his father so that he would not be devoured, and an epithet of several other goddesses, including Ananke (Titanic goddess of eternity) and Cybele (insane ecstatic goddess of intoxication, as well as her calmer original version, Rhea). It's essentially a title ("the inescapable") several goddesses share, but not really directly their name. Nemesis probably won't care much, or else will be comfortable in the knowledge that some of Alison's deeds may be attributed to her instead anyway.

Terminus totally did it on purpose to supplant that god, so no excuses for him. Aiona's name is nicely singular, however, as is Colin's secret-can't-be-revealed-right-now name.

I imagine some of it is just that there are already eighty-five bajillion named Dodekatheon gods and minor spirits. It's hard to find a name that somebody somewhere didn't already take. ;)

Victor now goes by the name of Aristidexios, meaning "most skillful".

  3. So from your response i'm assuming that Scion deals better with the occasional romantic plot then it does with humor coming from your preexisting relationship with your divine parent. That's what I was thinking when I asked the question but I couldn't come up with a way to ask it without making it too long and rambley. You also mentioned that you had a fiction entry on your site that explores the theme. Could you give me the title so i could look at it and see what kind of tone it has (The 2nd question was more about tone then making other PC's do things for you)?

    1. I think what we were trying to say is that romantic subplots or even major plots are totally doable, but keeping them humorous the whole time totally depends on the players and their choices/attitudes, so it's unlikely to stay in a perfect romantic comedy form unless everyone is trying to do that. You can certainly try it, though!

I think the story we mentioned was something that's happening in our Eastern Promises game right now but hasn't received a writeup yet, so I can't point you to one there. Some of Geoff's stories occasionally have a distinct romantic comedy flavor, however, as he tries to deal with his very incompatible wife, although the lighthearted tone is usually torpedoed by Titans or racism or other problems before long.
