In the meantime, I'd like to announce another project we'll be doing simultaneously with our Industry rewrite: the great JSR Bug Hunt, which will be happening constantly and as much as you guys want it to (thanks to an awesome suggestion by the equally awesome Other Tom!). We do our best to make sure everything is ship-shape, but we're just two people doing a lot of stuff, and we sometimes make mistakes or miss details. And that's where you guys can come in!
We're going to embark on a few weeks of intensely checking over the site for issues, and we'd like to invite any of you who want to participate with us to do so as well. If a power's ever slightly bothered you with what seems to be a mistake, or you've ever noticed something on the site that looks like it got lost in translation somewhere, now's your time to yell at us about it. We've already fixed a few bugs lately thanks to you guys, starting with the Hippocratic Oath dice fix that we posted this morning - let's keep this ball rolling!
Things that we would love to hear about so we can fix them:
- Typos
- Contradictory mechanics
- Confusing wording
- Broken images or links
- Costs/Rolls that don't do anything
- Broken power combinations
We may not agree with you that all of the above are present, but if you don't report them, you'll never know, and if we do disagree we'll tell you why so it at least won't be a mystery. I'm going to keep a running log of changes that you guys hunt up and we fix here, and I'm going to keep this post at the top of the blog for the time being (scroll down for new entries!) so you can all see the awesomeness in one place.
Now, this is totally voluntary. Unfortunately, we can't pay you guys and you're under no obligation to help us out with this. If you were around here like our players, we'd bake cookies for you or take you to the movies or something, but most of you are way too far away for those kinds of thank yous. But we'll be eternally grateful for anybody who is motivated to help, and hopefully JSR will be that much better a resource for players and Storytellers so we can all benefit from it.

Toxic Thorn still shows Toxicity in the difficulty line...
ReplyDeleteI knew there was one someone had mentioned that I was forgetting! Fixed!
DeleteIn your quick reference, the Snuff Boon in Fire is named 'The Green'. The Best Trick in Illusion is called 'The Savoir/Scourge'. The Aurora boon in stars is misspelled.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside, new celestial boons means boons for the Sun, Moon and Stars purviews, right?
Excellent points, thank you!
DeleteCelestial purviews includes Sun, Moon, Stars and Darkness, according to John. :)
Holy cow, those were embarrassing.
DeleteWouldn't darkness have more to do with trickery and obfuscation in most mythologies? Certainly some associate it with celestial, but darkness was not just in the sky, but in caves, deep under water, and even in that room nobody wants to go into.
DeleteTrickery, no; Darkness seldom has anything to do with that (useful though it may be for those who want to pass unseen). But it does often have to do with cthonic concerns, fear and deep places.
DeleteIt also has to do with the darkness of night skies and eclipses, though, which puts it in the celestial realm as much as in the cthonic one. I think it could be either place, but it might as well be here - better to get new boons for four purviews than three, right?
Incidentally, Sky could also easily be considered celestial, but it's being kept with the elemental purviews instead, which is why it isn't on the list there. It has more to balance against the other elementals, so it needs to be worked on alongside them.
The Sintez boon is also poorly worded in my opinion. In the quick reference, it states 'at no extra cost', but the power does cost 1 willpower. Similarly, the actual writeup has 'none' in the cost section, but reveals that there is a cost of 1 W for the boon. This isn't an optional feature like some other boons: if the Scion does not spend the willpower, the power literally does nothing. The thing should probably be reworded.
ReplyDeleteThank you, those are good points, too. I've changed Sintez' home explanation on the Dvoeverie page to show a 1 Willpower cost. The QR's a little harder because I don't want it to get wordy, but for the time being I've changed "for free" to "automatically". If that isn't fully clear, hopefully clicking through to the full explanation of the boon will dispel any lingering confusion.
DeleteGanesh in the quick reference has Occult associated, but in the write up has Animal Ken instead.
ReplyDeleteIt should be Occult. Fixed!
DeleteI don't recall specifics, but when I was reading through the Orisha there we're typos abound. I think it was mostly confined to the god pages, but who says the PSP was safe
ReplyDeleteYeah, there definitely were a few - my HTML writer doesn't spellcheck. I know I've gone through and caught a few already, but I'm sure there are probably more lurking in corners.
DeleteVishnu's associated abilities in quick reference and his writeup are completely different.
ReplyDeleteThis time it was the QR that was wrong. Fixed!
DeleteThe associated powers list in the house rules still shows the Loa, rather than the Orishas
ReplyDeleteDoh, I always forget those! Corrected.
DeleteAlso went through and updated mention of Orisha to Loa on the pages for Aganju, Osanyin, the War purview and Cora Champagne's character page.
There are still mentions of the Loa in some of the PDFs, but those are for general player consumption, not necessarily our house rules, so they're probably fine.
...the other way around. Updated mention of Loa to Orisha. Jeez, Anne.
DeleteErishkigal's QR has Politics associated, her writeup has Presence.
ReplyDeleteHuh. I'm not sure what happened with that one, but they were both wrong. She should have Politics AND Presence, and not have Fortitude.
DeleteFixed!
Control is misspelled as Comtrol on Marduk's writeup page, in the abilities section.
ReplyDeleteTypo eliminated!
DeleteSupremely trivial, but something my OCD can't stand: Chalchiuhtlicue's abilities,on her writeup page, are not in alphabetical order. I'm really sorry if that seems a bit unimportant (it really is), but it's bugging me like there's no tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHey, it matters to me, too! I always want those things to be in alphabetical order. I'd consider that a typo. :)
DeleteIn that case, check out Tlazolteotl's QR: Medicine is written as MEdicine.
DeleteA similar issue occurs in Veles' QR, with OCcult. Also, kudos on the new pic of Stribog, I hadn't noticed that you'd changed it.
DeleteGot 'em both! And glad you like it - one of our players found that one and it's way awesome. :)
DeleteApollo's QR states he has Melee instead of medicine. Also, in his write up, Medicine is before Marksmanship instead of alphabetical order.
ReplyDeleteFixed! (Jeez, if there's one thing Apollo doesn't do, it's Melee!)
DeleteAlso love Artemis' new pic!
ReplyDeleteI know - it's fantastic! It's by the awesome Jason Engle.
DeleteHermes' QR has Politics associated, his write up has Survival.
ReplyDeleteSurvival is the correct one - QR updated!
DeleteZeus' writeup has Presence before Politics.
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteOko's QR links to a page titled oko, but his actual writeup is on the page titled orishaoko.
ReplyDeleteDarn it... I just did that, too, and obviously was in too much of a hurry. It and his associations (should be Survival) have been fixed.
DeleteSpeaking of Oko, his writeup has Survival, his QR has Stealth.
ReplyDeleteGot him. :)
DeleteAnubis' QR has Medicine, his writeup has Integrity.
ReplyDeleteHmm, tough one, we weren't sure which we meant because both are legit. Ended up deciding to go with Medicine for the god of embalmers; fixed Anubis' page.
DeleteHathor too! How many pictures did you guys change while I wasn't looking?
ReplyDeleteAt least going through the QR means I'm getting to see all the new stuff!
Heh, we didn't do too many, but we're always on the lookout to replace pictures for gods that feel aren't getting to be as awesome looking as they should. :)
DeleteNuada's Attributes (on his write up page) are not in alphabetical order.
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteHaoma's abilities in the QR are not in alphabetical order.
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteI just noticed this, but Mah's page lists Kalfu as one of her rivals, where Kalfu no longer exists. I'm not sure how many other God pages still have Loa rivals who should not be.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's a good point. I'll run some quick searches and work on clearing those out.
DeleteAhunwar in QR has a cost of 2L, in writeup has a cost of 3L. Tanapuhr's cost also does not match. In addition, in my opinion, the Amesha Spenta Aura boons (5 through 7) need better descriptions. Currently it is unclear whether you need to access each aura separately or if they all get activated together. If the former, the writeup seems to imply that only the 5th dot boon has a dice pool while the others are automatic.
ReplyDeleteThe costs on the regular pages are correct; the QR's wrong. Fixing it!
DeleteI'm not sure where the idea that the 5-7 boons don't have to be activated individually is coming from? Nothing anywhere indicates that, and no other powers in the game are presumed to automatically turn on when you use others unless they explicitly say so. You can stack the auras from the three boons, but you'll need to pay for each and use a minimum of two actions (one a double-action) to do so. Dice pool's a good point, though, fixing that!
Speak Hu in the QR notes that it has a dice pool of Harmony. This is not mentioned anywhere in the power's description. Channel Ba's QR states a cost of 1W, while the actual cost varies. Funnel Ka should probably state that it costs a Legendary Deed in the cost section along with the 1L cost.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the QR didn't get updated from an earlier draft of Heku. Speak Hu's had its dice pool removed, Channel Ba's cost has been adjusted, and both it and the Heku page make it more clear that an LD is involved in the boon's cost.
DeleteThe Itztli writeup states that the penalty for healing damage caused by the purview magically is exacted in lethal damage. The QR states that it is bashing damage.
ReplyDeleteIt should be lethal. Fixed!
DeleteFor some reason the Jotunblut page is named Jotunblot. Not sure if that breaks any links, but it does get annoying if you're just trying to go directly to the page by typing in the address bar and get a naked valkyrie (not that I mind the naked valkyrie).
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's because we originally used the O spelling (with umlaut) back when we created the site, before realizing that the books used the U spelling and renaming accordingly. It doesn't have any broken links, but I can see how it could be annoying. It ought to be changed, so I'll change it!
DeleteUnlike other PSPs that have restrictions on their use, the Samsara QR fails to mention that it has one too (namely, the need for Yogic postures and chants).
ReplyDeleteOhhh, that one's totally my failure. We actually removed that restriction a while ago, deciding to keep requirements for individual boons in their text. I'll remove it from Samsara's page proper.
DeleteThe cost for Nemean Scroll is incorrect in the QR. Also, The QR does not mention Epic Enhancement at all.
ReplyDeleteBoth fixed!
DeleteImpassion's cost in QR does not match the writeup. The cost section of Sabot's QR is just plain weird. System Failure QR should mention that Science can also be used instead of Craft. Unlikely Pattern's dice pool does not vary, the difficulty does. Unintended purpose has different costs in the QR and writeup.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it's the roll that's incorrect for Impassion, not the cost. I have changed the cost to simply "Varies", though, to avoid any confusion.
DeletePoor Sabot - some raw HTML snuck in there! All costs have been corrected (they were all mistakes on the QR, not the normal Chaos page).
Oops, I meant Impassion's dice pool. Thanks for debugging my debugging.
DeleteShadow Craft's dice pool does not vary.
ReplyDeleteFixed the QR! Also fixed a typo in Shadow Craft's normal description.
DeleteDelay Rot has a dice pool. Corpse Oracle should come before Euthanasia in the Death write up page.
ReplyDeleteCorrected!
DeleteImprisoning Crystal QR cost does not match the page.
ReplyDeleteFixed! QR was wrong. (Noticing a pattern? Apparently I'm a lot worse about remembering to update the QR when we make changes to a boon than I thought I was.)
DeleteFrozen panoply QR is using Frozen Fortress' cost and dice pool and boon level.
ReplyDeleteWatcher at the Threshold has a 1W cost in the QR that is not present in the page.
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteThe Health QR should probably mention the once a day rule. The Cradlesong Boon has an optional willpower cost, but never mentions what the cost is for.
ReplyDeleteThe WP cost is addressed at the end, where it says a Scion "must pay the greater cost if he attempts to put any targets to sleep who are engaged in a strenuous or physically taxing activity (battle, sports, sex, etc.)."
DeleteThat's a good idea to add the once/day and not/self restrictions to the QR, though!
Doppeleganger has no cost in the writeup page.
ReplyDeleteOh, man, I didn't think any of those were left! Early versions of the summoning-style boons had no cost, but we added a Willpower later when it became clear that they could be abused to infinity without one. Thanks!
DeleteHeartfelt Promise in QR should probably not cost that much (to say the least). Psychic Prison'c cost has some html left over.
ReplyDeleteHilarious. Both are fixed!
DeleteMirror of Lunacy's dice pool differs on the QR and actual page.
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteUnbarred Entry has a dot level of 3 in the writeup, but 4 in the QR. White Stag costs don't match.
ReplyDeleteBoth fixed - UE is level 3, WS costs 3 Legend.
DeleteLevin Fury QR should probably mention that you can use both Marksmanship and Thrown to activate it.
ReplyDeleteDone!
DeleteThe Stars purview QR should probably mention that the Scion needs to see the stars.
ReplyDeleteGood point. Fixed!
DeleteAm I reading this right: All-Seeing Eye, by the description, would appear to permanently lower your maximum willpower by 1 every time it's used!
ReplyDeleteAlmost. Having All-Seeing Eye up does not allow you to simply rebuy the Willpower dot while it's active, but if you chose to deactive the boon and no longer have access to its powers, you could spend XP to buy your Willpower back up. I see where it could seem to say it just lowers the pool permanently - I'll clarify.
DeleteMortal Stroke's costs do't match.
ReplyDeleteGood god, I hope no one too that QR gem seriously. Fixed!
DeleteChanging States QR costs too much for a Hero to ever use. According to the QR, Waterborn Spirit is a power on the same level as The Flood!!! Also, on the actual page, Waterborn Spirit's Cost section misspells Willpower.
ReplyDeleteIt's just a typo - supposed to be 3 Legend, not 30. :(
DeleteOther typos also fixed!
Armour Crusher is not on the Strength QR page.
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteAnti-Gravity Climber does not have a prerequisite in the QR.
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteLast Act cost incorrect in QR. Also in QR, Last Act and Invulnerable Nail in wrong order. Natural juggernaut QR has no prerequisite.
ReplyDeleteAll fixed. NJ was probably a holdover from the olden days when it was a level one knack.
DeleteBelieve your own press has a dice pool of Nonce on the Charisma page. Natural Leader has no prerequisite on the QR. Widespread Appeal does not list its prerequisite on the Charisma page.
ReplyDeleteForsooth, for the nonce and et cetera. Fixed. And darn, there's that same problem for NL that we had with NJ.
DeleteNo defense for WA, though, that's just mistakes. Man!
Mass Hypnosis cost incorrect in QR. Not the Face QR has incorrect prerequisite.
ReplyDeletePoor QR. Both corrected!
DeleteDisorienting Countenance missing from QR. Visage Great and Terrible has the wrong prerequisite in QR. Waking Nightmare on the Appearance page is missing a dice pool.
ReplyDeleteAll fixed!
DeleteFool me once has no prerequisite listed in the QR, neither does Scent the Divine. Sharpshooter's info sections on the Perception page are kind of all over the place.
ReplyDeleteAll corrected!
DeleteApplied Academics has no prerequisite in the QR. Fast Learner and Star Pupil have the wrong prerequisites. Speed Reader's dice pool on the Intelligence page doesn't actually mention anything. Well Read Virgin is wrongly given a prerequisite in the QR.
ReplyDeleteHoly shit, am I just secretly on drugs when I make changes to things? Fixing it all. Sheesh.
DeleteEvasive Action and Instant Investigator have no prerequisite in the QR. Ingenious Improviser has the dice pool listed twice on the Wits page.
ReplyDeleteAll fixed!
DeletePhew, that should clean up the Quick Reference a bit. I should mention though that I didn't even look at the Amatsukami, Shen, Nemetondevos, TsukumoGami, Taiyi, Deuogdonio and Enech pages given that these are all in for eventual overhauls anyway.
ReplyDeleteAnd as a final testament to my OCDness regarding such things, I request that you insert a comma between Occult and Politics in Agni's abilities section on the QR. Hope that was of help.
"Clean up the Quick Reference a bit," he says.
DeleteThank you so much for all your help. You've been an absolutely stellar proofreader. All the applause!
You're very welcome. Always happy to help! :D
DeleteBy the way, on a tangential note, I was wondering, given how allergic John is to pantheons right now, what's the state of the Maya pdf? Is that on hold temporarily?
It's still in the works! The brand-new pantheons that are worked up for downloadable PDF are always done parallel to our other projects, so the Maya will continue trucking toward glory (a little slow, but they're getting there). That's another reason pantheons cause fatigue - doing one is a lot to handle, but doing two at once might be too much!
DeleteHopefully there will be less of a massive overhaul for the Amatsukami, who have at least mostly the right gods and basic ideas in place and don't need an entire rewrite, but we still probably need the break.
Just woke up. Discover the Bug Hunt is on, and Samudra is now the ruling MVP of bug hunting! I'll poke around and see what I can find.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, thank you!
DeleteOrisha are still listed as the Loa under Vestiges of a Distant Past. Not sure if the abilities listed were meant to be changed at all.
ReplyDeleteFixed! The abilities have slightly changed and are now correct.
DeleteThe same thing is happening in the Scent of Divine Knack.
ReplyDeleteWeird. I could have sworn it said Orisha and had palm wine as the scent instead of rum a few days ago...
Delete...dude, I totally changed both of those, what the heck? A wire must have gotten crossed while I was processing other changes yesterday. I'll get those reverted back to the Orisha after work today.
DeleteFixed. Still not sure what happened, but should be all good now. Oddly enough, Code of Heaven was still corrected to the Orisha, so no need to fix that, at least.
DeleteI don't have any constructive comments re: bugs at the moment (but I'll keep my eye out!)
ReplyDeleteHowever, it has occurred to me after seeing how many fixes there have been that I'd like to educate myself on what changes have been made. Maybe when this bug hunt is over, could we have these bug fixes recorded in a format similar to patch notes? Have them grouped by category (APP, PSP, Associateds, etc.) for easy scanning.
Fixing the bugs/mechanics/etc. is important, but making sure we're all up to date on what's changed afterwards would be suuuuper helpful :)
Awesome work so far everyone!
I think we could definitely do that. :) Most of these, it looks like, are failures of the QR to match up to the live powers, which is probably just me being bad at remembering to update both instead of just the one; there probably aren't a lot of straight-up changes, but this is still a good idea.
DeleteIt just occurred to me: shouldn't Dva Dukhom and Dvoinobog have entries for Ori now?
ReplyDeleteJust responding here since I'm about to move this post: yes, they definitely should, but we have to balance that so it's taking a little longer than the simple bug fixes. Hopefully that'll be up in the next few days.
DeleteI am not sure about it,
ReplyDeletebut Jionis husband is Erebus, right?
Shouldn't he be linked as such on your Orisha page,
the same way Sangria and Geoff are linked on both the Aztlanti and Aesir page?
Or is Giza another unrelated husband of hers?
Oh, awesome point, thank you! He was put on there before we finished the Titanrealm pages, and I must have forgotten to go back and link him after he had a page of his own.
DeleteGiza is Erebus, but his name should be updated so he is properly Yoruba-ized with everyone else. That's fixed, too!
Since Aurora (Stars oooo) "calls down the stars to augment her normal beauty" it needs a clarification wether it works for Scion with negative Epic Appearance or not.
ReplyDeleteHmm, you're right, using the word "beauty" makes it seem like it refers only to positive EApp. Fixed!
DeleteSince a well executed song works as payment for the Northern Spirits (Stars ooo), I think it should have the option to use Charisma+Art(some type of music) for the activation roll.
ReplyDeleteI think this time we'll have to disagree. The price the spirits demand is separate from the roll to summon them; they have to show up regardless of whether or not you give them anything, because they're responding to the command of your summons, not your art (that you may or may not even be bothering with). The Art roll will come into play when you (or someone you get to help) perform a song for them, and will be a separate event.
DeletePortent (Star ooooo)might need a clarificationas well. You can only activate the Boon when you can see the Stars, wich the allows you to either enhance a Prophecy roll or a Mystery roll in the same scene.
ReplyDeleteIt is not intended to give the boni to Prophecy/Mystery rools made later on in the scene if the stars aren't visible anymore, is it?
I think you could phrase it as an optional basic cost you can pay whenever activating a Prophecy boon/Mystery and are seeing the stars, kind of like Baelfyr works.
Hmm. We're normally pretty strict about the seeing-the-stars rule for the whole purview, but I think in this case it's okay for them to do it later, even if the stars are obscured. As long as the stars are visible when they use Portent, they are able to read their mysteries and apply them to the next divination they make (provided it's in the same scene); the stars going away won't make them forget what they saw in them.
DeleteThe boon's intended to allow a little leeway in that you don't have to use it at the same time you're performing the prophecy - you can, but you can also go out, read the stars, and then go inside and set up a ritual and do your prophecy in there while still getting Portent's benefit. As long as it's within the same scene and stars were visible when Portent was paid for, there's no problem.
The Milky Road: Does the Scion have to see the Milky Way directly, or is it enough for her to see the Sky? Because clouds, supernatural darkness and sunlight can obfuscate the view of the milky way as readily as a roof does.
ReplyDeleteMight need clarification.
That's what the line at the top of the Stars purview is for. :)
Delete"...if at any time the Scion wishes to use a Stars Boon that requires her to be able to see the stars and she is unable to do so because of daylight, cloud cover or other obscuring effects, she may roll Perception + Awareness to attempt to perceive them past the disturbance."
As long as her Perception's good enough, she can still "see" the Milky Way even if there's stuff in the way. The roof clause is there mostly because we want to make sure this boon is used outside under the night sky - that is, it should be a Scion ascending to travel along the Milky Road, not randomly teleporting from anywhere.
Totally overlooked that one.
Delete2 out of 5? I will look more thoroughly the next time I 'find' something :)
FERTILE SOIL/SALTED EARTH
ReplyDeleteThe interaction with the negative uses of CLEANSE/BLIGHT and BLESS HARVEST/CURSE CROPS might need some clearing up. Fertile Soil shouldn't effect Blight positively, neither should Salted Earth hinder it for example.
Excellent point! Cleaned up the wording a bit now to differentiate between positive and negative Fertility boons, should make that more clear.
DeletePaper Tiger might need a clarification in the wording.
ReplyDeleteExcept in the table it allways speak of "the animal" as singular,
wich implies that one only calls forth one animal when spending 1 legend.
The table states the amount of animals you get per diceroll on the other hand.
Does it allow to summon as many animals as found in the table for one legend, or does each specimen costs one legend?
Is the artwork re-useable?
Concerning the re-useability of the artwork:
DeleteThis also concerns Nemean Scroll.
Artwork is not reusable; the animal's literally coming out of the art. If you had a scroll with a painting of a tiger among some trees, if you used Paper Tiger on it, the tiger would come out and you'd just have a useless painting of trees left over (though it might be pretty in its own right, if you're a good painter!).
DeleteAdded a note to both to clarify!
Another question then.
DeleteWhen I creat the paper Tiger artwork,
is it aussumed that I paint down as many Animals as the successes and the table imply?
So when I roll 30 successes for Paper Tiger (Tiger),
does my painting depcit 15 tigers,
that I then can summon for one legend each?
That was my main issue with the wording , that it allways said "that animal" in singular, thus implying that you can only store 1 animal per artwork,
thus rendering the table for AmountofAnimals/Successes useless.
Oops, somehow missed this question - sorry! You still get multiple animals according to the table; "that animal" is just referring to the kind of animal, not implying that you only get one. If you get thirty beavers or whatever, we would assume your painting had thirty beavers in it.
DeleteHybrid Chimera: Do you need the boon for both Animals in case you haven't got Protean Understanding yet?
ReplyDeleteYou do not - if you have it for one animal, you can splice it with any other. But that's worth noting in the boon's text to avoid confusion, so I just did. :)
Delete"Oshun and Death" last line: Shouldn't it be *alone* instead of along?
ReplyDeleteIt certainly should. Fixed!
DeleteIn the third line of "Oshun and Oya" on Oshun's page it currently reads, "she went outside and began to flity outrageously with the leader of the dead horde." I assume that's a typo and it's supposed to say flirt instead of flity?
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed. Fixed!
DeleteThe Wits knack Adaptive Fighting states "...add bonus dice equal to her Epic successes dots to her next attack on the same target"
ReplyDeleteIs that successes or dots?
Doh. It's dice. What that sentence is trying to say is that you add dice equal to your Epic Wits successes, so if you have five Epic Wits you get eleven dice, but it's obviously not doing it very well.
DeleteFixed for clarity!
Mannannan Mac Lir still has Agwe as a rival.
ReplyDeleteCurses, I thought I'd gotten all of them. Updated to correctly show Olokun instead!
DeleteJust noticed you removed the Fate and Switch spell... any particular reason for this? Too broken to be balanced?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the Perception knack Unfailing Recognition still lists it as a form of "supernatural concealment".
Thanks, it's been removed from Unfailing Recognition! Also removed the mention of Cheval and replaced it with the Ori boon that handles possession.
DeleteFate and Switch was one of the few powers in the game that we removed because it just didn't seem to belong there at all. It was distinctly unmythical; the idea of swapping bodies is, like time travel, a distinctly modern concept that is entirely absent in ancient stories. The first literature examples of it start appearing in the nineteenth century, and the whole concept of being able to divorce the mind from the body largely starts with Descartes in the seventeenth century, with his then-revolutionary concept that the mind and the body were two different things. Before that, the only concepts of the mind being separable from the body in any way were connected to death - that is, a soul, ghost or shade might depart the body after death, but not before.
Essentially, it's modern sci-fi, so we booted it. We'd let modern Scions try to create machines or magical relics that could pull off a similar effect, but it isn't one of the powers of the ancient gods.
Well, there are several native american myths that involve possession, such as monster slayer taking over your body to find dangerous foes.
DeleteBut that is more like Gun. The possessed person is just kind of in limbo and doesn't take over any other bodies.
Exactly. There's a big difference between a god being able to overwhelm and ride a mortal with divine power, which does happen in some cultures' myths, and swapping the minds of two beings between one another, which doesn't.
DeleteThanks! That makes sense. That boon in particular always struck me as odd for some reason, now I know why.
DeleteTypo in Ori -> AKUNLEGBA ->Thirst for Sensation
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteTypo in Intelligence: Concept to Execution: "improvies" should be "improvise."
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteMore a request for clarification than a bug/typo, since one of my players asked this question last night, do you allow phantom dots in Academics from Astronomer's Eye to be added to other abilities with Applied Academics and Principles of Motion?
ReplyDeleteI ended up ruling an additional Legend cost for it (like the line about Arete states), but I wanted to know your stance on it. :)
Hmm. I don't think anyone's ever asked before (our only major character with Astronomer's Eye is Eztli, and she's not exactly an Academics powerhouse). I would say that no, they don't add since they're only phantom dots, not real ones, but if the cost thing works for you, I don't think it'll break anything to keep doing it.
DeleteNot sure if just me, but Disorienting Countenance looks a bit bugged ( in the QR ). The Pre-req is under cost, the cost is under roll, the roll ( -- ) is under effect, and then just jutting out to the side is the effect. Where the pre-req should go is just a void.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I found the typo in the code - it should now appear correctly.
DeleteFrom Fertility Purview, Boon "Quicken"
ReplyDelete"Plants gain rudimentary sentence as soon as they have one dot of Intelligence..."
Probably should be sentience instead of sentence!
Thank you - fixed!
DeleteYoloxochitl, specifically the "Yoloxochitl and Tlaloc" part, there's a typo.
ReplyDeleteIt should be "Hand in hand, she sacrificed each of them to the rain god; at the stroke of the last, the skies opened up and poured rain down on the land..." etc, instead of 'te skies'
Fixed!
DeleteNot sure if intentional pun, or typo. Moon purview, Moon Letters boon.
ReplyDelete"By transcribing her most secret messages, lores and pieces of information by moonlight, the Scion with this Boon may make them night-impossible to uncover..."
I chuckled in either case.
Heh, no, it wasn't on purpose, but I'm glad you got a chuckle out of it. Fixed.
DeleteTwo things, dealing with your Natures page.
ReplyDeleteFirst, not certain it's a bug, but it is a minor complaint. While I do love that you can click the white text, and have it open up to a more descriptive paragraph, I can't seem to get it to close by clicking it, or anywhere again, and have to refresh so it doesn't take me forever to scroll.
Second, below all that nonsense, down where it talks about gaining Determination, all of the Natures but Architect and Artist appear to be centered in their boxes, with Architect and Artist aligned to the left.
Fixed the centering issue, and another bug I found in the table.
DeleteSadly, the clickable text problem is a code limitation; there are ways to make it disappear after you click on it again, but they involve more Javascript than I have time for right now. I feel your pain, because it annoys me to death, too, but at least it allows you to only open the ones you want instead of having to scroll through a whole static table.
Itztli has another of those odd table problems, with the "FAMILIAL SACRIFICE" boon.
ReplyDelete"Scion child, sibling or grandchild " is off to the side, while "Scion's Legend increases by 56 points" is under "Family Member".
Damn! Fixed!
DeleteAntidote (Health 2) makes reference to Toxicity in its description.
ReplyDeleteOh, man. Once was annoying. Twice is just embarrassing. Fixed!
DeleteHippocratic Oath says someone with 5 or fewer permanent willpower is too drained to make the Oath, but a starting character could have 5 willpower and not be drained at all.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you meant "Less than 5 permanent willpower"?
That is what it means, yes - the word "drained" is just flavor to explain that she doesn't have the strength of will to use this boon with so little permanent WP. I'll change the wording to avoid anyone being confused, though.
DeleteIn the QR, the Moon boon Lunacy is written as "L:unacy"
ReplyDeleteIn the Sun Purview, the Fusion Boon's table has a typo. "Lethal Damage Dealth"
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteThere's a typo on Shango's page in the story "Shango and the Invention of Scarification."
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteNot exactly a typo, but in Obatala's story section, unlike everywhere else, there's not an extra break between the final two stories, "Obatala and Oshun" and "Obatala and the First Man"
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteIn Oshun's story "Oshun and the Orisha", it feels like you left off a comma in the line, "Olodumare then asked them where their seventeenth member was, and when they admitted that they had snubbed Oshun informed them that everything they did was doomed to fail until they appeased her."
ReplyDeleteActually, that's technically grammatically correct! You can insert a comma after "Oshun", but it's not required.
DeleteThere's a typo in Eshu's story "Eshu and the Wives". "He fashioned an incredibly beautiful feathered hat and too it to market, where he sold it to one of the wives."
ReplyDeleteAlso, the story is a big confusing. It first mentions a man with two wives, and then it talks about Shango. Was Shango the man? Were the wives then Oya and Oshun?
Typo fixed!
DeleteI see what happened! The story is told about both a nameless man and his wives and Shango (which wives are not addressed) in different areas. I moved it to generalization for more options, but feel free to make it about Shango if you want to!
The Individualist paragraph you get after you click the little white thing, the description? It has a typo. Leet speak and all that.
ReplyDeleteFixed!
DeleteIn Eshu's story "Eshu and Orunmila" there seems to be a lot of necessary spaces... here
ReplyDelete"The farmer did not believe him and cut his hand with the knife in the ensuing struggle. Saddened that he would be considered a thief, Orunmila fell asleep beneath the stars; in the dead of night, Eshu, who had seen everything, sneaked into Owo and cut the hands of every person who lived there."
The huge amount of spaces didn't post here.... but it's between those two sentences. At least, on my screen.
DeleteFixed! That was supposed to be the tab stop before a new paragraph, but the line break wasn't there.
DeleteHTML language automatically reduces all large numbers of spaces down to one unless you use specific code to indicate you want more. That's why it didn't copy right when you tried to reproduce it. :)
On Hestia's page, her sacred wolves should probably be muscled, not muscles.
ReplyDeleteAlso, on Osanyin's page, in the paragraph detailing the effects of the various plants in his domain, one of the rolls has Fortitude spelt as FOrtitude.
Is this still being used for the bug hunt? I remember... dear lord was it really a year ago? Time flies. Anyway, the important links at the top still links here and I've found a couple bugs (I believe) and I wanna know if I can still use here or if I have to go elsewhere!
