John Love Google

So, this week we realized we didn't have a vlog and had already skipped one, but we also only had like ten minutes to try to do one and hadn't prepared answers to any questions. So... this happened instead.

John believes he is an internet sensation. Look how fucking smug he is.

  1. Wow guys, just... wow. Well, I guess there must be some kind of character-building lesson learned from this somewhat aborted fetus of a vlog. Still think your awesome though, it's just this was very... wow.

    1. Hey, we're always in favor of character-building.

    2. Were you paying us for our vlogging in some way? I didnt think so. If your goal with this comment was to get more of the same type of vlog, you have succeeded.

  2. I love the Vlogs you guys do, and this was no exception to that. I really liked hearing about Dionysus, and hearing some of the weird questions the internet apparently has regarding mythology. I think drawing inspiration from John and Hank Green for some filler stuff was a great idea.

You guys are always awesome, ignore this fool above me.

    1. I'm glad to hear you enjoy them! It's more fun to shout at the internet if you know someone is out there hearing you. :)

  3. Damn, this reminds me of the time the zooarch lab had a white-off to see whose skin was palest. I won. *unenthusiastically* hooray.

I think this was a fun little diversion. While calling Quetzalcoatl a dinosaur (and further calling pterasaurs dinosaurs, which they are not) makes me cry out in nerd rage, the Aztecs got the idea of feathered reptiles right long before science ever did, which is interesting...

One of the possible reasons Dionysus is a god associated with travel is (at least according to one of my profs, so grain of salt) that the highly-diluted wine the Greeks made travel, especially sea travel, possible, since the alcohol kept the water reasonably purified. Not to mention that grapes, and thus wine, were up there with olives for top Greek trade items. Hence, the widespread appeal.

... You know, with so many deities based on preferred methods of intoxication, I have to wonder if there isn't some American Scion out there ready to become the god of crystal meth...

    1. That's an awesome Dionysus theory. I'm totally digging it!

I'm pretty sure if Lionel survives to godhood, he has a good chance of being God of Heroin. Thomas and his addict characters...

    2. We believe that Phylogenetic nomenclature is a fad, and will continue to flying lizards dinosaurs, and the robin redbreast outside my house not a dinosaur. Because any system that calls my household canary a dinosaur is ludicrous.

Phylogenetic nomenclature is stupid. ....and since we arent scientists we can say that without sounding like complete quacks. Because obviously Phylogenetic nomenclature is how science is "apparently" done now.

  4. That was awesome! But as fun as it was it also inspired questions:

    1. Could a Scion of Quetzalcoatl choose Ta'lich as his PSP? I know you guys were experimenting with the idea in your Eastern Promises game, how'd that turn out?

    2. Could Ultimate Charisma 'turn off' a Virtue? Cuz Hera's Vengeance seems to have effectively forgotten that Dionysus is someone she's supposed to be hating non-stop.

    1. Hmm. We'd maybe consider it, depending on what we were doing with the game. The K'uh have been released but aren't officially available in our games yet, so it's a moot point, but if they were it seems reasonable. Our Yazata-using-Deva-parentage character unfortunately kicked the bucket, so we didn't see much of that experiment yet, but it seemed to work okay so far.

Ultimate Charisma probably can't turn off a Virtue, because Virtues are usually their own separate thing (especially for gods), but it does make you totally inclined to always roll against the Virtue in order to avoid doing anything nasty to this person who is so awesome. Hera probably always rolls against her Vengeance around Dionysus because she likes him so much and doesn't want to do anything mean to him, so as long as she doesn't hit Extremity, he's golden. (I would imagine he probably keeps her Willpower topped off whenever convenient to make sure it doesn't get ugly.)

    2. I disagree with anne here. Id let ultimates turn off a vengeance virtue.

Eastern promises virtue isnt as much an experiment as an important part of the story of the game. Its not something we'd allow for every game, but if it somehow fits the story then we definitly would. Like if it was an american focused story with 4 american pantheons, and the origins of the gods or pantheons were to be a main crux of the story, Id probably set them up to get either psp.

  5. I actually really enjoyed this Vlog! I would not be opposed to more of the same, in addition to normal question ones, and story times! ( Maybe a Polynesian Story Time, that isn't Pele? ) Also, this is easily the cutest you two have been together on camera in a while, had me giggling just to watch xD

Glad to provide a giggle. :)

  6. Hey on the subject of other Pantheons, specifically those who haven't made it into the game, are there any that JOHN would actually really like to see added into the games that don't already exist? Or are the ones that are already up the only ones of value? This is one of those questions that I would ask in the Box, but my phone apparently eats all my questions (and half my comments) so I'm just asking it here instead.

    1. I think I've seen John mention on the White Wolf forums that he'd be interested in a Guarani pantheon. If that's true, Anne, I request Guarani storytime!

    2. Generally speaking Im ok with any pantheon that has enough stories/background being "allowed" into the game. I mean, the idea of scion is that they all exist in some fashion. Im not sure there are any Im SUPER Excited about, just because I think the current ones havnt had enough play yet. And by play...I guess I mean, people get bored easily, and sometimes having fewer options actually makes them be more creative.

My aversion to more pantheons in public however, is usually based on how hard it is to balance and write psps.

re: guarani. Id like to research them more, but i think because of lack of source material they'd be one of the most difficult pantheons to do.

  7. And as if to illustrate my point, my phone just ate that question.

    1. It's not your phone! At least, I don't think it is. For some reason, Blogger marks some of your comments as spam which causes them to not appear until I go in and manually approve them. I try to do it as soon as I realize it happens, but I apologize if I miss it sometimes. :(

You'd think it would behave itself - you have a blogger profile and everything!

  8. While the updated character creation include a better explanation of what the skills in scion are actually used for? Will you be including new skills in the update?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. At the moment, no - it's just character creation rules, so it'll give an outline of how you build a new character but not go in-depth into the meaning of various stats. However, John's saying behind me that we could always make creating a PDF with skill descriptions and levels a future project. :)

    2. By skills do you mean abilities?

      Delete
    3. yes, but i typed in skills to avoid confusion with Attributes/Knacks, that some scion players might confuse with abilities. 'Cause of the D&D Mindset.
