Our marathon vlog series continues, this week with a two-for-one subject deal! Look at us go. We're not tired at all.
Question: I was just reading the Fatebinding rules on your site and something confused me. The way that the rules are written makes it seem like Scions have to be Legend 3 before they can get Fatebonds. Am I understanding that correctly?
Question: I remember John saying a while ago (in comments) that Fatebonds in general don't buy Attributes below 3 dots, but is there a theoretical maximum? Could one measly Fatebond and enough time buy a character up from zero Epic to ultimate attribute?
Question: What happens when the total amount of XP Siphoned by Fatebonds exceeds 100%? For example, if you pick up seven Level 10 Fatebonds - you'd end up with 105% of your XP being siphoned to meet your Fatebonds' expectations. Do you end up with more XP, but no discretionary spending?
Question: What would happen to the entire universe of Scion if Fate was either destroyed or could no longer influence the Gods?
Question: Neith is said to be a goddess that "made" Fate. how does that work in Scion?
Question: What's the difference between a Valor pantheon and a Courage pantheon? What makes you decide to give the Theoi Valor instead of Courage, or give the Tuatha Courage and not Valor?
Question: Have you ever considered having the Virtue Benevolence? Helping others, even sometimes at great cost to oneself?
Question: Is Malice going to be one of the core Virtues of the Inuit? It might be a little strange to have a Dark Virtue, but from your description the Inuit people were constantly scared shitless of their gods.
This is our fiftieth vlog - how the time flies. We should do something special, right?
Hey, guys. We're aware that our video is being a massive pain in the ass right now and refusing to load, and since we're stuck on a hotel connection this weekend, it's not being polite about our attempts to fix it. Please be patient - we promise it'll be up some time tonight.
We decided to celebrate our fiftieth vlog with technical difficulties.
It's been hours since the vlog was posted but the video is unavailable, it's still "being processed". What is happening?
ReplyDeleteThey're having tech trouble. Read the whole post.
DeleteSorry about that, but all's well now!
DeleteOh sorry. I didn't notice that, my bad.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the deity who "made" Fate one possible route to take would be: "All things are true, but few things are accurate."
ReplyDeleteA good tagline for Scion games. :)
Delete"Zeus tried to take over, and then SOMETHING WENT WRONG!"
ReplyDelete:(
Shhh, everything is going to be... okay?
DeletePoor Vivian. Gets a shiny new Orisha PSP to play with, and now all the prophecy-related boons are useless. :(
ReplyDeleteFor those interested in modeling a Benevolence-type virtue, it might be worth looking at Exalted 2e's Compassion Virtue as a starting point to work from. At the very least, if I ever run a game, I'll use it as a guideline for how someone like Guanyin acts, even if her statblock might not actually have a Compassion virtue.
I do have to ask, though, you mentioned that falls a bit under natures - but it falls a bit under Valor, too. Isn't there a bit of overlap between a virtue like Valor and a nature like Gallant?
I know, the Orisha are very unhappy about the Fate issue right now.
DeleteThat's true, Virtues and Natures can overlap, although they shouldn't be identical - a Gallant may have a Valor-like need to save people, but he doesn't necessarily have the honorable combat thing Valor has going on. I think the issue of all good vs. all evil is the more pertinent one for why we wouldn't want a "being the good guy" Virtue in the game.
I never found much use for natures. People are way more complex than that. It can be handy if you tend to play the same way all the time, but I prefer to just forget about it and play the character how they would really act situation to situation.
DeleteThat is usually peoples excuse for "i dont want to be tied down, I want to do what i feel when I feel without consequences" or "I dont know who this person is when we're starting the game so I'll make it up as we go along".
DeleteThose are both very good excuses :D
DeleteIt reminds me of D&D alignment more than anything. The easiest solution is to simply not care about it. You're not harming anyone by not caring about it, and those who like having the benefits can keep on using it.
They arent good excuses for playing a real character. They are excuses for ruining everyone elses game and making an ST not know who your character is. If you're doing whatever you want, whenever you want without reason, you arent playing a role playing game. You're playing something else.
DeleteIm not saying the nature system is some sort of be all end all, or that people in real life and stories cant make decisions outside of the scope of their normal reactions. Or especially that characters shouldnt grow or change over time.
DeleteBut I am saying, that just sitting down and "doing whatever you want" is toxic to the table.
You're describing a hyperbole; a slippery slope where the only option is to slide all the way down into destroying everyone's fun at a table. Especially the 'without reason' part you added. That was never part of the discussion.
DeleteI propose that realistic moderation is more than possible, and everyone at the table can continue to have fun.
Question: What would happen to the entire universe of Scion if Fate was either destroyed or could no longer influence the Gods?
ReplyDeletePro Tip: If you EVER want to find out, never vote for ANY fiction that isn't Better Next Time or Skeins of Fate!
Thomas knows stuff.
