Where Are We? What's Happening?

Question: Hello, I stumbled upon this website and I found it interesting, please tell me what its all about. (:

Well, hello and welcome to our corner of the internet! I'm not sure if you're talking about this blog specifically or John's Scion Resources, our main site, but in either case the answer's the same.

For you, and any other weary internet traveler who might have stumbled in here confused, this is a site for a roleplaying game called Scion, published by the gaming company White Wolf. It's a game in which the players take on the roles of children of the ancient polytheistic gods and go on adventures of awe-inspiring scale, drawing from myths and mythology around the world, usually in an attempt to oppose the destructive Titans that have escaped from their ancient prison and now threaten the world. It was inspired in no small part by Neil Gaiman's novel American Gods (which I recommend everyone in the world read even if you aren't interested in Scion), and, though it predates them, it's similar in theme to the Percy Jackson books by Rick Riordan.

Our site is a labor of love for this game, which John and I run several sessions of each week. It houses custom rules that we use to make the game flow better, extra powers and personalities for use in the game, new pantheons to flesh out the game world, resources for other players on the 'net and stories we've written about our own games and characters. None of it's for profit or officially a part of White Wolf or the Scion game line; it's just our little tribute to (and organizational dump for) a game we love to play and talk about.

If any of that sounds interesting, I'd urge you to pick up a copy of the first book, Scion: Hero, if you have a minute and see if it floats your boat. Hard copies of it and the other books in the line are available online at Amazon and other book and game retailers, and those as well as electronic PDF copies are available at DriveThruRPG. I'd recommend it strongly if you're someone who enjoys roleplaying games, and even if you're not, you might still find it interesting.

Thanks for dropping by!

  1. Not the OP: I actually got Neil Gaiman's American Gods after reading this post and I'm reading it right now. So far it's interesting. Thanks for the tip.

    1. You're very welcome. It's pretty fantastic. :) If you end up liking it, Anansi Boys is a "sequel" in the same style by Gaiman, starring everyone's favorite spider trickster.
