Sight Beyond Sight

Question: For Telescopic Senses, you have it as multiplying a character's perceptions tenfold. Does that mean that with your House Rules you multiply the distance they can sense things at by 10, or their perceptive capability number by 10?

The first; it multiplies the distance they can see by 10, not their Perceptive Capacity. If a Scion has 5 Perception, 5 Awareness and 3 Epic Perception, she has a Perceptive Capacity of 9 and can see 150 yards with perfect clarity; if she has Telescopic Senses, she can see 1500 yards with perfect clarity, an astonishing feat indeed. She cannot, however, see to Jupiter, which is what multiplying her Perceptive Capacity up to a 90 would do.

Just seeing the entire World at once is a feat worthy of gods in legend; being able to see halfway across the solar system by Legend 4 would be a little bit excessive.

  1. And with that title alone, I will never take Telescopic Senses seriously again.

  2. Wouldn't the example given have a perceptive capacity of 12?

What formula should we use for numbers between the intervals of 5?

What are the penalties for sensing beyond those limits?

    1. Sigh. You are right. In my brain, I meant three Epic Perception, which translates to four successes, which somehow wire-crossed and came out as four Epic Perception. I'm going to go ahead and edit that up there.

For math, I refer you over to John.

    2. Numbers between intervals you can just figure out the difference based on the sliding scale if you like math. Or you can just do an even split.

      So if 30 is 100 and 35 is 1000

      31 is ~125
      32 is ~200
      33 is ~350
      34 is ~600

      or
      31 is 280
      32 is 460
      33 is 640
      34 is 820

We have place on our sheets where we write that number down, so figuring it out is as rare as getting another dot of awareness or perception. And you should use whichever way is easier for you. When you get to that level, small increments like 50 yards shouldnt come up as mattering too much.

  3. And now for a serious comment and not just a jab at the Thundercats reference...if someone used Telescopic Senses to see further than the horizon, would he or she see the actual physical curving of the Earth and begin to stare off through the atmosphere into the depths of space, or would you go with the "forget physics" attitude from the God book and just have them see around the Earth?

    1. Both? Id play it as whichever the scion wanted. If they are in france and trying to see to britian, they see to britian(although there are probably a fuck ton of buildings in the way....so they probably dont see too far). But if they wanna see into space instead, they see into space.

    2. Can you use Clairvoyance on distant locations you can currently see? For example, you can see a turn at the end of a hallway. Can you use Clairvoyance on the turn without having ever stood in the turn?

If so, can you use Clairvoyance on places you have seen with previous Clairvoyances? For example, if you use Clairvoyance on the previous turn and see another turn further down, can you pay the cost again to set your new point of view to the second turn?
