Hey, everybody!
By popular demand (by which I mean a few people who emailed me so I'm sure you know who you are), we're going to start announcing when new fiction comes out here on the blog, both so it's more apparent for those not paying a lot of attention to the Updates page and so there's somewhere for commentary and people who want to tell us about typos. Exciting!
To inaugurate this new practice, today we have the new story Fathers and Sons. It is a tale of light in the darkness, familial responsibilities and mysterious regicide, and stars Geoff Matheson with appearances by Sangria Tecuhtli, Sophia Archimedes, Mitchell Gozer, Marcus James and Aurora Dahl.
For those of you interested, happy reading!
The Ragnarok related parts of it just seem really shoe-horned in. And Aurora just kind of comes across as one-part bitch, one-part annoying. Which is sad because I love her. :(
ReplyDeleteI mean, not that it isn't believable - they are down in Duat for a really long time and the dramas of the Gods goes on without them, but it's like AURORA CAN'T YOU WAIT UNTIL WE ARE AT LEAST DONE THIS SIDE STORY.
Heh, it's not surprising that Aurora comes across as unpleasant - Geoff doesn't like her, and it's from his point of view. Unfortunately, Ragnarok marches on no matter where everyone is or what's happening. It's very inconvenient that way.
DeleteWell, the aurora stuff was already written so it had to happen like that. Have you read the story of hers that relates? It might make it seem less shoe horned in.
DeleteAlso. Re: My ragnarok post about themes. An important theme was weaving in the pantheons that the pcs interact with. So because of geoffs interactions in egypt, they got weaved into the baldr story and had additional fall out because of it.
Also, is it weird that I find Geoff and Sangria's relationship a little adorable?
ReplyDeleteThey ain't what I'd call healthy, but I find them pretty adorable, too, sometimes.
DeleteNo, actually, I jumped ahead to read this one because I felt like the comment box on this worthy story was too empty. Plus I like Anne's stories. Question though - Aurora's companions, Thought and Memory, are Cats. I (and most laymen) always thought they were Ravens. Are they both in myth?
ReplyDeleteAww, that was nice of you. :) Thanks.
DeleteOdin's ravens, Huginn (Thought) and Muninn (Memory), are definitely birds. Aurora has a pair of cats named Thought and Memory who she refers to as being ravens, but whether or not they're actually the same as Odin's ravens, small projections of them or just similar Birthrights is still a mystery at this point.
Don't worry, it's not you - in myth, it's just ravens, no cats involved. Cats are traditionally associated with Freya, the original practicer of the womens' magic, seidr, that Aurora specializes in.
