Who's the Big Bad?

Question: Awhile ago, when talking about Greater Titans that you think would be fit to oppose specific pantheons, you said Death or Storms for the Amatsukami. Considering that you've already written those Titanrealms for other pantheons, what do you currently have in mind as opposition to the Kami?

You guys. :)

We've mentioned it before, but we'll remind you guys again: the downloadable supplements are written to be compatible with the original Scion ruleset, not the ones on our site. We know, that's weird and confusing if you already use our rules, but we're pretty sure there are more people out there using the original books or their own house setups than are on our bandwagon, and we want these supplements to be as easy to use and accessible to as many people as possible. Theoretically, they should all be plug-and-play for most vanilla-rules games.

But, that means that what's in the supplement doesn't always exactly align with what we end up doing on the site ourselves. Just like the Anunna roster changed slightly in translation, or the purview of Dvoeverie was rewritten when we made it compatible with our rules, so the Titan setups will not necessarily match what's in the downloadable pantheon supplements. Those supplements have to play nice with things already in the original game's world, even when we think they're stupid (cough, Soku-no-Kumi), so by default they don't have as much freedom as our own inventions on the site.

So Death and Storms being presented as Titanrealms in our supplements (opposing the K'uh and Atua, respectively) doesn't necessarily mean that that's where they'll eventually end up on the site, or that their Avatars will remain the same and so on. We happen to really like how those two fit their opposing pantheon concepts, but nothing's set in stone until you see it on our Titans page.

If you'd like a third option, we also think a Titanrealm of Decay or Corruption (probably mostly mechanically using all the gross parts of Health) would be a good opposition to the purity-and-order-focused deities of Shinto as well.

  1. I'm throwing my vote in for option no. 3. Corruption, decay, rot together sound like a perfect opposition to the Shinto Gods, with Izanami helming. I'd go so far as to say that Decay, as the Cosmic Priciple responsible for the breakdown of matter is distinct from Disease or Death, the same way Storm Water and Destruction are different but related Cosmic Principles, which would leave the Pestilence Titanrealm open for the Orishas.

I was thinking of possible Avatars (I spend way too much time thinking about Titans), and I think Nirriti would be a better fit here in Kegare (I'm borrowing the name from Jomoru) than Xibalba. Also, what about Zarich, the Deev responsible for ageing, who also, apparently, has a side business poisoning plants? I understand that Kegare will not have as many Avatars as some of the more populous Titanrealms, but three seems like a good enough number to start with.

Question-asker here. Which Titan do you, at this moment, see as the most likely Kami antagonist? Was what I was actually going for. :)

    1. We don't. :) We're not working on them right now, so we haven't been able to dedicate the time, research and brainpower to choosing the best Titan for them. We've got the aforementioned possibilities, but that's as specific as it's going to get until we're actually working on it - sorry!
