Wedded Bliss

Question: So is Jioni married to Erebus, and if so is their marriage as happy as you say in Jioni's stories?

Actually, yes, for the most part! Jioni and Erebus are married; she happened to be psychopomping past an area that led to his realm one day and piqued his interest, leading him to keep an eye on her and become increasingly infatuated, and sealed the deal when she not only managed to resist his attempts to use social powers on her and almost turned him down, but did it with sassy charisma of her own. He'd recently split from Nyx (which is another story entirely) and got down on one knee to beg Jioni to be queen of Erebus instead. She was a little hesitant, what with him being a Titan and her not knowing him very well, but he had a truce with the Dodekatheon and was being really sweet and sincere, so she took the plunge. Her bandmates were somewhat shocked - even Vala didn't see that one coming.

They don't see each other all that frequently, since he's busy doing politicking and trying to whip Erebus back into shape after the sorry mess that Mikaboshi left it, and she's busy running all over the worlds with her band, but they're pretty fond of one another when they do. Jioni enjoys the many social benefits of being considered queen of a Titanrealm - the Dodekatheon, in particular, give her all due honors and are a lot more polite to her than her own pantheon ever is - and Erebus dotes on her, gives her fancy Darkness relics and is always ready to leap to her aid if she needs it. She's currently pregnant with their first children, so we'll see what that looks like someday - I'm looking forward to some wildly divine children, considering that one parent is a Titan and the other a god.

Also, apparently their sex life is awesome, and that's like half the battle with Jioni. It's ironic that the one marriage to a full-blown Titan Avatar is probably the most drama-free one in all our games, but there you go.

  1. So three questions.
1). At the god level can the goddesses choose whether or not they want to be pregnant even if they don't have any health boons, or do mortal rules still apply?
2). If mortal rules till apply does Jioni have the pregnancy health boons to control whether or not she "catches."
3.) While I wouldn't call Jioni a slut, she seems to be the most sexually free of many of her bandmates always on the look out for a great ride as seen with John and in your comments about Erebus. Has she ever been called a slut by any of her current or former bandmates?

    1. 1) Nope rules still apply. There are too many myths of goddesses having kids they dont want for that not to be the case.
2)If she didnt want a baby, she'd need to have sex with a very powerful health god for her to even have a chance of getting pregnant
      3) I think so? Not in a long while though she stopped the rampant sex when John died.

    2. Yeah, what he said. There's still a male involved in the sex, after all, so there's always a chance she could get knocked up. She has so much Health, though, that mortals have no chance whatsoever of getting her pregnant without her okay, and gods or Titans would have to have a lot of Health to try to beat hers if they wanted to press the issue. I don't see it happening unless she decides to bang Apollo or something (mistakes!).

We have a PC roll a single die to determine pregnancy; if they got a 6 or higher, they're pregnant, and if they got a 10, they get to roll again (so if they get a 6 on the second roll, twins!). PCs with Health boons get to add or subtract their total Health boons to that however they want, so Jioni gets to drop a whopping -17 on the roll if she doesn't feel like getting pregnant, which means most of the time she's in charge of that. PCs who don't have Health boons get to play the odds just like mortals.

I think John used to be grumpy at her occasionally, but it was more out of jealousy than actual meanness. I think the closest anyone's ever come is Kettila, fresh out of Aztec school, informing her with deadly seriousness that sex is illegal so she needed to stop doing it.

    3. Yeah, an eternal eight year old who's only sexual experience was being violently raped and knocked up by a nature spirit (The most unforgivable thing that John's dumbassery ever resulted in). I don't think Kettila really has any right to open her mouth on the issue. Unfortunately she has enough health to start throwing around STD's and act like a mini Tlazoteoltl.

    4. Nah, she was legitimately trying to help - she'd just gotten in a lot of trouble with her pantheon for her sexual behavior and had just been taught that loose sex wasn't okay, so she was sharing with Vivian in case she didn't know. Vivian pretty much just rolled her eyes.

Kettila's actually had other sexual experiences, but none of them were particularly healthy. She didn't really get sex, but she understood that other people wanted to have it with her, so she used to trade it for gasoline and whatever else she needed when she was wandering around in the World (about 50/50 whether or not she killed the guy with Itztli afterward). She was also raped by Thor, unfortunately, after which point Aurora and Vivian have made it a point to make sure she "turns her face off" with My Eyes Are Up Here whenever she has to be around gods, just so they don't get any ideas.

But yeah, I don't think she'd ever try to actually stop or punish Vivian or anybody else for sexual misconduct. She just points out to them that they shouldn't do it, kind of the same way she tells everyone everything else she learned from her crash course in Aztec law and custom.

    5. Okay. I hope to the gods she kept herself an adult during these encounters. And since I doubt she ever got pregnant again after her abortion of the summer kings twins, I'm guessing ether she had enough health to keep from getting pregnant, or she had enough appearance to use detail variation to remove her reproductive organs at that point. And as for her views on sex, I guess she just has a child's black and withe view that what's right is right for everyone and what's wrong is wrong. I always liked Thor and thought he was the least rape happy of the gods since I don't remember any of his stories where his partner wasn't willing.

    6. Yes, these all happened before she turned herself into a child. Now sex is a thing that happens to other people, which is really for the best for everyone. She did actually get knocked up again by Thor, and those kids are at large somewhere, probably due to show up at Ragnarok with everyone else.

Yeah, that's it exactly - Kettila has a very black and white view of what things are okay and what aren't. She's not trying to get up in anyone's face, she's just easily confused when people are doing something "wrong".

Thor's problem is that he isn't very bright, is all; Kettila was really pretty and she wasn't doing a good job of explaining why she didn't want to have sex, so he figured she was probably fine with it. The fact that he's very charismatic and not nearly as scary as the Spring King helped make it not as traumatic an experience, and I doubt he even remembers it at this point.

  2. Here's an idea for one of the children. A girl named nocturne goddess of the erotic night, the darkness filled with sex and love. She can be sort of a representation of Jioni's sensual nature and the healing power of sex.

    3. just throwing things out there. would you rather it be another monsterous god of fear and terror? A child like that doesn't fit with Jino's nature or Erebus nutrality. but go ahead and bring another terrifying night god into the world, I should be interesting when the band is forced to decide whether to let if live or not.

    4. You have to realize that we come into this with a very different perspective. We're actually in the game with Jioni. Thomas is Woody/Folkwardr. I'm Will/Sverrir. We see things as they happen.

Also i wasn't laughing at your comment... more so Thomas' reaction of which you'd have no basis unless you knew him. Not your fault... just falling victim to the group of us knowing each other... sorry about that.

I don't think there's been a story about Jioni and her restraint since she's been married to Erebus. She's definitely not a terror/darkness goddess... I'm all about switching it up as my other toon (Terminus) was almost a god of the Dark as well. Fate had other plans.

From what you know of her that's a definite possibility for her. Though I'm not sure sensual was accurate either... she's pretty blunt...

But she's definitely faithful to hubby... even if she still has wandering eyes... The manservant in her Sanctum has a distinct semblance to a past lover....

      Hope this helps

    5. It'll certainly be interesting to see how their children turn out, but it is going to be quite some time before they even come into the world, and that's assuming Jioni survives Ragnarok. Even if the divine children reach adulthood, their role won't be guaranteed. My original plan for Vivian was for her to be a big Cheval/Death/Psychopomp powerhouse with lots of Charisma and Manipulation. She didn't quite turn out that way, and I seriously doubt if her children will turn out the way she will expect, either.

She currently has no plans to cane her children for misbehaving, though.

    7. My comment had more to do with the number of Fire's posts that are somehow sexually-related (especially when it has something to do with our female scions) than anything else.

    8. Nocturneus, the god of midnight terror. A chaotic and capricious child of Jioni and Erebus who represents everything that goes bump in the night. Wherever he roams, city lights dim, children hide under there beds, adults sleep with their weapons and everyone feels the breath of predators breathing down there neck. still only a baby Nocturneus still finds ways of slipping away from his parents to roam the earth at the darkest hours of the night as well as the new moon (his favorite time of month). Whether he becomes one of the Loa or chooses his fathers titan heritage is anybodies guess, but everyone from the Loa to Jioni's bandmates are keeping an I on the child (when he hasn't stolen away in the dark of night).
Associated powers: Darkness, Chaos, Appearance: Negative
(here, non sexy god of terror and nightmares. You have a ton of these monsters running around, but non representing one of the most positive aspects of human existence. That is why I keep harping on it).

    9. I'm confused as to why you think that because something is not associated with sex, it is an evil monster. Sex and evil are not opposites, and there are many positive aspects of human existence that have nothing to do with sex.

    10. Both of your ideas are interesting, but I think that it's silly to come up with character concepts and associated powers for unborn godspawn. Just like with real children, they have to grow into what they become. Experiences and fatebonds change and mold Scions, and they rarely (if ever) turn out just the way you planned.

Vivian's titanlings may some day grow up to embody some of the ideas you've come up with, but it's just as likely that they'll become the Goddess of Deep, Dark Swamps or the God of Cockroaches.

  3. I thought Thor being that kind of a meat head was a modern invention? From what I've found about the purest versions of Thor from research of the cultures that worshiped the Aesir Thor was not as wise as Odin but he was far from stupid and probably closer to the Thor found in Marvel Comics than the dunderhead we all seem to think he is, and at least smart enough to know no means no.

    1. Thor being referred to as "wise" etc. is a late addition to his myths, generally coming in at the very end of his cults when scholars think trends might have been pointing to the Norse turning to him as the chief god instead of Odin (but Christianity came in at that point, so we'll never know). Generally, though, we note Thor's lack of brainmeats as evidenced in his stories - when a dude is going around doing things like pissing off Groa by recounting the tale of how he humiliated her husband that one time while he's trying to get her to perform surgery on him, he does not exactly look like a rocket scientist.

I have to say, I love all the blogs but the comments are just perfect sometimes.

  6. I wouldn't say that Kettila was actually raped by Thor. She really just wanted to keep up with the rest of the group at the time, so she was trying to not let him distract her. But, he was so handsome and insistent that she finally just gave in. She even asked him to shrink down first so that his size wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately for her, he couldn't really control his own strength, and she was forced to skin shed so she wouldn't die from the experience.

    1. That's a lot of good points - it was certainly an entirely different situation from the Spring King. You'd know better than I would. :0

But lord, how all the other PCs winced when they heard him booming, "Hey, everybody, I just banged this girl so hard she flew out of her skin!" Across all of Asgard. While they were sitting next to Sif.
