Affairs of the Heart (of the Forest)

Question: So did Sverrir ever end up marrying anyone?

Not yet. And he'd better get on that shit, because he promised to hand over his first daughters of a legitimate marriage to the Pesedjet, and they are not going to wait forever for him to start busting those out.

Sverrir actually technically had the opportunity to marry the Morrigan on the eve of Ragnarok. He was descended upon by emissaries from the Amatsukami, Pesedjet and Tuatha de Danann, all looking to turn his kingly bachelor status to their advantage, and the Pesedjet made the deal to get his first legitimate daughters while the Tuatha demanded that he immediately father some sons on the Morrigan (they're pretty pissed off at the Aesir and Vanir right now, for reasons which are too lengthy to go into but are mostly Woody's fault, and they were demanding a little compensation for their heartbreak). It was suggested that if he just went ahead and married the Morrigan, he'd be able to kill two birds with one stone, but for some reason he just wasn't down with marrying the psychotic murdertrain of a goddess that rolled in and raped him into unconsciousness in the middle of diplomatic talks. Go figure.

So he dodged that bullet, but no special lady has stepped forward to seize the heart of the king of Vanaheim since. This isn't very surprising, since he's spending almost all his time fighting off enroaching armies from Ourea who threaten his realm, and there are pretty much no living Vanir women left so he's unlikely to meet anybody unless he leaves home now and then. The Norse divine population is severely depleted after Ragnarok, so it seems likely that he will end up making a political alliance with some other pantheon, but Will isn't exactly Mr. Congeniality so there are no volunteers stepping up to the plate right now.

It's been pointed out to Sowiljr that, as god of marriage, he really ought to fix Will up with somebody advantageous to everyone, but so far he's procrastinating. In the meantime, who do you guys think would be the best match for everyone's favorite cranky Vanir pain in the ass? Go wild!

  1. If they still happen to be around (and single), either Hnoss or Gersemi seem like good first picks, being minor Vanir goddesses. I'm not sure if they're married already in myth, or if they (or their husbands, if do) survived Ragnarok.

From the Pesedjet side, Hathor looks like a good fit, being the opposite of murderbitch Morrigan, while also having a strong connection to the fertility theme that the Vanir have going on. Again, going off of the tree on your website it looks like she's available.

From the Amatsukami, Inari would be a good fit for similar reasons to Hathor (fertility) if Will could get over the whole sometimes-a-dude thing.

From the Tuatha, the Morrigan seems like the most powerful lady over there, but Brigid might make for calmer seas...but then, marrying into the Tuatha and NOT picking the Morrigan after her emissaries have approached you about it might cause a world of other conflicts.

Good luck, Will! And Sowiljr, who no doubt will have to clean up whatever messes arise from all these shenanigans.

    1. Ha ha, Hathor was actually the emissary from the Pesedjet that approached him, and he was totally willing to go for that one. She informed him that she was out of his league, alas.

Brigid's off the table, but the others all possibilities!

  2. He could marry a Bogovi lady...
Throw him together with Vesna, and that'd be an interesting match.

  3. He should just get down with the Morrigan. Who knows, maybe a daily dosage of fun-times in the marriage bed might make her a little less murder-rapey-time towards him!

Besides, no one would want to mess with their kids growing up!

    1. Already married dude...and I'm pretty sure Sowiljr would get a coronary if Sverrir decided to hit on Shiva's girl.

    2. Poor Sowiljr. Being the self-appointed defender of marital bliss is a hard job.

Sverrir's met Shiva. I don't think he's about to do anything that might even remotely attract his attention if he can help it.

  5. Well, given my druthers, I would have Xiwangmu, Guanyin, or Marishten be the candidates, if only to give John some incentive for rehauling the Amatsukami or the Shen.

Or, you know. One of the Elohim or the Apu or the Alihah to give him incentive to add them to the site.

Scions/Apotheosized Scions of said pantheons would also be options.

But... hey, another option is always to go the Jioni route and marry a Titans Avatar. It seems to be working for her, doesn't it?

    1. Ha. Well, Marishiten is probably out - historically, she does not get along well with Norsemen at all (unless this was a step toward peace, eh?). The other ladies are certainly around, though.

I can only imagine the domestic bliss of a Titan Avatar + Will's ridiculous bad temper.

    2. Getting hitched to Guanyin seems like one of those marriages where the spouses end up becoming complete strangers because one of them has a 24/7 job. Assuming that she's even interested, given the whole Bodhisattva thing. Although I must admit the idea of Guanyin going around trolling Sverrir sounds hilarious.

    3. Oh, my god, she would drive him crazy. It would be beautiful.

    1. They'd be... wait for it... really hot together.

  7. Don't the Vanir traditionally practice incest? If he's really strong about bringing back his ancient pantheon, he ought to find some female Scion of Njord out there (I'd suggest Freya, but...well.)

Outside of tradition, I'd say he should marry Sinmore. She's probably dead by this point in your game, but I'm betting Surtr is locked away by this point too, or at least burned himself away along with the World Tree. Considering Sverrir is a Giant Fire Man and Sinmore is a Woman Fire Giant, it might give Sinmore that Heel Face Turn she's always been looking for.

    2. The Vanir should have been less white.

  9. The answer is Poliahu or one of her sisters or daughters so on.... That's who he'd choose. Then he'd wage war on Pele and claim her volcano as his own.
