Knots and Ties

Question: The description of Alter the Fabric of Fate states that the Scion "may increase or decrease [Fatebond Level] to any level he chooses". Does this include taking it down to zero, thus effectively destroying Fatebonds?

No, it doesn't - sorry, Gauls! "Any level" does not include no level at all, so your Fatebonds can decrease all the way to 1 or increase all the way to 10 if you so choose, but they won't simply go away. That's what Devotio is for, and it has serious possible repercussions associated; the Nemetondevos may be able to meddle around in Fate's innards and change the degrees of its connections, but removing them entirely is a very dangerous power that young Scions do not have access to.

However, you can lower the Fatebond to a very low rating (a 1 or a 2) and hope that you'll be able to avoid spending Legend around that person for long enough for the Fatebond to expire on its own. It'll be difficult, of course, because Fate is not going to make such attempts to circumvent it easy for you, but it's still a possibility for those truly seeking to shuck their connections to humanity.
