Benched Superstars

Question: This may have already been asked, but will any or your inactive characters reach godhood? Characters like Saki, Aiko, Deirdre and Koga are only one or two legend away from apotheosis and some of the more twisted of them like Koga and Seamus would make interesting gods.

Yes, as a matter of fact! PCs seldom permanently go away in our games, inactive or not, unless other PCs go to great lengths to make sure they do. They usually become NPCs or MacGuffins for the active PCs, and their players are often happy to come make a cameo appearance in whatever game they happen to turn up.

Of the ones you name, Hachiro and Saki are almost certain to appear as gods at some point, and Colin, whose character page needs an overhaul, already has. Dierdre, Seamus, Darcy, Hime-Kame, Alison and Ray are also all still definitely in play in one way or another, though each is doing too many secret things for me to out them when our players are reading this. (We know you're there.)

I'm actually pretty tickled by all the interest in some of these characters; our players make great personalities, and it's fun to see others enjoying them, too. Someday we'll have to take a poll to see who's the most internet popular and award that player a bottle of whiskey or something. And then all drink it together.

  1. I'm the one who E-mailed you the ideas for collin and allison. Did you use anything from my bacchanal idea?

    1. Oh, hey, there!

Once they leave player control and become NPCs, most characters generally have a roadmap to their final destinations planned out a while in advance (though it can always chance if PCs do things that affect them). I think Colin and Alison were already well underway by the time you sent us your writeups, but you had a pretty good grasp on a lot of their themes, so even if they aren't your ideas, I think you'll probably see some similarities. :)

  2. You put two of the three Jolie-Pitt kids still in play. Is carlos in play as well?

    1. Carlos has not been seen since his untimely demise; as alluded to by Hime, he was properly collected by Xolotl and delivered to Mictlan, which is not a place many people manage to get back out of without help. But, as with all former PCs, that doesn't mean there's no chance of him ever showing up; just that it's a slimmer chance, and that our other Aztec PCs would more than likely need to be involved in some way to pull it off.

  4. It sais Xolotl collects people who die average deaths. Carlos is a scion and died trying to avenge the deaths of his sister, anything but average. If you ask me he should be allowed into one of the heavens in acopa that keeps warriors, or at least Tlalocs real where children reside. I realize that Mictlan isn't a punishment realm, and can be quiet nice for those who like warm, damp, dark places, but Carlos should at least get taken to Acopa for his efforts in fighting Jay.

    1. While Acopa itself isn't really a destination for dead people, you're right; Carlos actually has an alternative option. He died in battle, meaning that Huitzilopochtli could lay claim to him as a slain warrior; it's possible that Xolotl took him to the House on the Left instead of Mictlan, but as Hime-Kame couldn't get across the river and probably doesn't know much about Aztec theology, she'd have no way of knowing the difference.

He probably wouldn't end up with Tlaloc; the rain-god does collect children, but mostly only those specifically sacrificed to him (as well as anyone who dies from drowning or being struck by lightning), and at any rate Carlos was a teenager and would have been considered an adult by ancient Aztec standards. Itzpapalotl's realm plays host to dead infants, but Carlos was a bit old for her, too, I think.
