To the God-Phone!

Question: Could we someday do a Q/A bit with some of your players answering "in character" ? Either in text or video format would be really cool! Geoff, what is your favorite color?!

Hey, there, folks!

We got this question in a little while ago, and while we think it sounds pretty fun, we weren't sure exactly who the questioner had in mind or whether there were very many of you out there who would like to do this.

So, we're asking you! Would you have fun asking questions (and getting answers!) to some of our characters? If so, which characters or games did you want to talk to? What kinds of formats would you like to get answers in? Is there anybody out there going, "Ugh, that's the worst, I hate the very idea"?

Please note, this is not an invitation to start pouring in questions to the characters right now. We're just doing a quick barometer test to see if it's something that people would have fun doing. If there's enough interest, it'll be up to the players themselves if they want to participate.

But it sounds pretty awesome to us. Let us know how it sounds to you!

  1. Depends, would it include characters across all your games? Much as I admire the God Band, the fact remains that most of their adventures had happened before I became a regular on this site so I simply don't quite have the feel for them as I do for Gangs of New York, whom I'm getting to see right from the beginning in all their dysfunctional glory, or Eastern Promises, who have my favourite character on this site, Mohini, as well as other members of my favourite Pantheon. Not to mention Gangs has Scions of two of my all-time favourite Gods: Zeus and Ishtar, and had Scions of three others: Poseidon, Hecate and Anubis.

    1. That depends on what you guys want. :) We'd certainly be open to characters of any/all games, assuming of course that the players are up for it. We haven't asked them yet, so we can't speak for them - we just wanted to see if it was something that enough people were interested in first.

    2. Also, I don't see why we couldn't include Scions who are currently dead if people want to talk to them.

  2. This sounds hilarious.

Bonus points to anyone who can provoke a Virtue Extremity part way through the AMA, and have them keep answering.

In all seriousness, it would be a good chance to look at how to role-play someone so detached from human norms.

    1. A serious reason and a "just for fun" reason, the best combination!

  3. It sounds like it would be fun to read.

  4. I'd most certainly enjoy it! We get all these teasers from the God Twitter, and a closer look at each character from the fictions, It'd be so awesome to question some of those favourite characters!
In regards to this, how many of your players from former campaigns would you be able to pull into this? I'm not asking for a list, I just want to know if it'd only be your current players doing the Q/A, or if you have contact to some of your players from former campaigns. (I'd personally love to ask some questions to Kettila.)

    1. I think there are only one or two players that we couldn't reach, so there shouldn't be too much trouble there (for example, Kettila's player doesn't live here anymore, but we're still in contact and she plays in Gangs now and then!). Of course, the players themselves have lives and might opt out, but we'd be able to ask most of them at least.

  5. Hah, Ooooh so many questions for the characters of the other games.

    1. Ha ha, and I'm sure the players in the other games have some variations on "What are you guys in Gangs doing?", too.

    2. So many questions for your character, good sir!

  6. This sounds like all sorts of fun. Considering how funny the couple of short, out-of-context IC videos you've posted are, I think this would make an amazing vlog!

Then again, the AMA text format might be better if there's going to be a ton of questions answered from different characters played by the same people.

Either way, I have tons of questions for Vala, this should happen!

  7. I would love this. The opportunity to ask Geoff, Russel, Goze or any of the other character's questions! what an unique opportunity!
also, special edition, Lambach? Can we have ''fates agent'' answer questions in an AMA?

    1. Ha ha, I'm not sure - that might be a different kind of AMA. But maybe he'd be willing to answer questions on behalf of some of his more famous NPCs?

    2. Yeah, it would not be the same, but an AMA with John about GMing and how he does everything would be very interesting to me, as the primary scion GM in my area.
I don't know how much people would like that idea, and i'd not miss the in-character answering for it either, but if there's ever the time and so on and so forth :)

    3. I too wish to delve into the mind of GMing John.

  8. I would love this, but silly as it is I'm pretty sure talking to Aurora would be like talking to a celebrity for me. Even if it's just Anne doing a voice.

    1. Hey, that's the kind of silliness we encourage around here. :)

  9. I think this would be a fantastic thing. I'm giggling at the idea of you writing Eztli's grunting, monosyllabic answers as a contrast to your usual eloquence.

And then there's the tempting possibility of an NPC-version (that John would never do since the players would be the first ones asking questions of, say, Jay Ortiz)

    1. Heh, I'm sure we would have to include a clause that let players say, "Sorry, can't tell you that, it's a secret," so they don't have to blow anything the other PCs shouldn't know, but I'm sure most questions would be fair game. :)

    2. Alternatively, treat this as a huge use of Mystery! :D

  11. Sounds like fun to me. Personally, I'd rather a written format than a vlog, because I'm not as smart as Folkvardr, as terrible as Lionel, or as well-spoken as Haji.

    1. Make it a reddit AMA : Hi! I'm Etzli, devourer of stars and Goddess of blood, AMAA! :D

    2. actually, it would be closer to "What." followed by "No" and confused looks.

  12. I also think it would be a very fun idea. I agree with Thomas that it is best done in a written format, so nobody is put on the spot and can get deeply into character as they compose their replies.

    1. I think that's what we're hearing from both you guys and the players themselves, so that's our most likely choice. Thanks!

  13. Written format, to get to ask Goze, Geoff and others some info (Goze is first because he's still my favorite after the whole 'go through Egypt solely to help save everyone's asses' thing).
