Chaos, Monkeys and More

Question: Is your Chaos Titan still Hundun? Because I have come up with this Titanspawn that would be on the path toward becoming a full-on Titan Avatar of Chaos, sort of like a dark reflection of Sun Wukong (who is awesome), and I really like how you two have done the whole Titan thing, so I'd be curious to know how this sort of character would work as something unique that's happening in Scion.

We haven't done an official rewrite for the Titan of Chaos yet, so at the moment our Chaos Titan is a loose agglomeration of concepts; we have no Chinese Scions at the moment and thus their Titanrealm hasn't been one of the more major antagonists in play. We'll definitely have one when we're done with our Titanrealm rewrites, but that's a while in the future, so we don't know exactly when it'll happen. As far as Hundun's portrayal in the book goes, we didn't like much of its writeup and probably won't keep a great deal of it - Hundun himself is a good choice for a Titan Avatar, but while we totally understand the challenge of trying to represent a concept like Chaos in understandable bits and bites for play, we don't think the book did a very good job with it.

We've been using some of the elements of Pakiy, the Titanrealm of Destruction we wrote up for the Inca pantheon supplement, in lieu of Hundun, and so far that's been working out pretty well for us. It needs a full rewrite, but will have to wait until whatever round of Titan work it crops up in.

As for your Sun Wukong nemesis, however, that sounds like a fun idea! Titanspawn becoming Titan Avatars is absolutely possible, and since one of Chaos' schticks is mimicking and twisting things that already exist, having it based on Sun Wukong (himself a chaotic mess of a god) should work just fine. Sun Wukong started as a Titanspawn creature and became a god; a dark mirror of him that went the other road should be a fun phenomenon indeed. Incidentally, that's also a fun thing to explore for Scions of the Monkey King - their father was originally Titanspawn and even now is strongly aligned with chaos and destruction, so it's not inconceivable that some of his Scions might find the road to the Titans suits them more than staying with the straight-laced gods.

I say go on with your bad self. Your Titan Avatar idea sounds, in theory, like it's got a great base; just make sure you understand what aspects of Chaos this guy represents and what his motivations are, and you've got an antagonist your players can love and fear all day long.

  1. Thanks for this answer! I'm the one asking about this.
And, yes, I've got a good thing about how to handle this guy - he's going to represent the antinomian deal that Chaos has.
Figure he'd be associated with Chaos, War and the Moon.

Personality-wise, he'd be very arrogant, since he's meant to be a mirror of the Monkey King.

Also, I have a Scion of the Monkey King in the game, actually!
So, yeah, this will be fun, seeing a Titanspawn rising into a position of Titan Avatar, and then interacting more with this girl.

Anyway, thank you for the response!
