Question: You guys have really creative relics for your characters, but I'm trying to understand them. When a relic says "+Moon to Intelligence rolls", for instance, does Moon refer to the level of the purview or to the total number of Moon boons that character has? I'd like to incorporate your relic creation system but want to make sure I'm getting the balance correct.
It almost always refers to the total number of Moon boons that character possesses; I can't think of any time that we'd use the level of boons instead. Total number of boons means that the Scion can increase their effectiveness by getting new boons, even if they're not higher level, and encourages them to become experts in their areas of influence.
Because relics can get very complicated, especially at higher levels, we sometimes use shorthand on our sheets since our players know what it means. If you ever have other specific questions about something you see listed on a Birthright, let us know and we'll be happy to talk about it.
