Forum JSRum

Question: John's Scion Forums? Do you guys ever this could be a thing? It seems like the site has spawned a decent-sized and dedicated community that might benefit from a space to discuss among itself rather than trolling the WW forums (that are more than a little buggy). Just a thought!

Well, we have thought about it, but the Scion forums are so robust that we've generally always decided against it. I don't think there are too many people hanging out over here at JSR who aren't also on the Scion forums, so it didn't seem worthwhile to set up another forum unto ourselves; it would just be the Scion forums but smaller, right, since we wouldn't have the people John's run off? Silly as it sounds, we (or at least I) also didn't want it to seem too much like we were "competing" with Scion proper, since the forums belong to White Wolf and Onyx Path, the actual people that own Scion and create it for us, and we're just some internet bums who like to put our rules online.

But if enough of you guys think you'd enjoy it and get some use out of it, we could certainly do that. It wouldn't take all that much time to set up (though it might take longer to make it pretty), and we have enough server room to handle it. If you'd like to talk about JSR-specific stuff (or general Scion stuff you'd rather talk about here, I guess - we're not your bosses!), or you'd really like to foster the community in a second set of forums, or you even just want to have somewhere to post stuff of your own, we'd be down with that if enough of you were interested. We wouldn't want to put up a forum that was going to be two people and a bunch of tumbleweeds, but if it would be a fun thing for you guys, then we're up to give it a try!

Just remember, though: John will be your all-powerful forum moderator. Think about that.

  1. 100% support the idea of a JSR forum. I feel like these comments sections end up becoming a half-assed forum in of themselves, and I just think it'd be easier to discuss stuff in general with a forum, because the only people who get alerted when somebody makes a new comment are you and John.

I'd be on that thing all day.

  2. Do want. I'd take JSR over Scion 2.0 and WW forums any day.

  3. Agreed 100 % (Also the person who suggested it :P ) I end up liking the stuff here alot more, a place for sharing real myth and not the popularized/hollywood versions that you see on the WW forums. Also it will give your players to interact with their adoring fans! I am sure Geoff's player would love to brag of his favorite moments!

  4. Despite the fact I can't be buggered to actually join the official scion forums, just going on them seems the better option. Few reasons for there to be a forum here, besides the Don't See New Comments as Jacob mentions above. Alex, how would that be different if the players simply joined the WW forums? As for accurate mythology on there, if more people from here joined there, that would help things.

Although...it sounds like if a new forum we're created here, the want for seeing new comments and the myth talks these questions generate, that it would be preferred to have the Blog's questions shifted over to being forum threads in their own right. In which case it /would/ be smarter to have forums here, as I doubt WW would be inclined to have a subforum for "some internet bums."

    3. I am not certain what the advantages would be.

The Scion Forums are a little slow, and creating your own forums would directly take activity away from the Scion Forums. It would also mean more time out of your potentially busy schedules to moderate.

Almost anything you can do on your own private forums you could do on the Scion Forums too. In fact, it would probably help the Scion Forums if you cut and paste your blogs there as well as here. This way both sites can comment on it.

You could make a single mega thread or break it up into chunks containing about 10 blogs per Scion Forum post.

Besides John getting free reign to speak his mind, the only other real advantage I could see is increased popularity which might garner you positive attention from Onyx Publishing if you desired such a thing.

    4. Thing is, more than a few blog posts depend on mechanics used only in their games, and having multiple blogs per thread would lead to very cluttered thread commenting. But making individual threads would clutter the forum as well, and make it harder to find all the blogs together there.

Honestly, a good case can be made for either option. Would only that this blog post had more comments, opinions

    5. Yeah, we've been watching it pretty closely, and the general lack of response/interest pretty much confirms what we were thinking. I think there could be some advantages in some dimensions, but I don't think there'd be enough overall interest, and I don't know if it's doing enough to really be worth differentiating from the regular White Wolf forums.

I also assume that Onyx Path will open up their own Scion forums in 2014 when they launch, so the community will probably move over there en masse.

    6. Plus some random dude made a big list of Scion Websites, with this blog heading the top. Anyone on the Scion Forums looking for this place can find it super-easy.
