Pew Pew

When looking at Asha, with puriew-lasers in mind, it seems that Animal does not counter anything. Is this intentional? and if not, what could it counter?

If you're using the table in the Ashavan boon as your template for purview attacks against Titans - which is a good idea, and I recommend it! - you will indeed notice that Animal is not represented there. Neither are Earth, Fertility, Fire, Sky or Water, as a matter of fact. However, if you scroll up just slightly to the Amesha Spenta boon, you'll find all six missing purviews as large as life, along with their opposing elements.

Asha uses those six purviews to represent the elements of the Amesha Spentas that serve Ahura Mazda, important powers in Persian mythology, so they have their own boon and slightly different interaction with the purview than everything else. However, you can still use their table along with the larger Ashavan one to get a good starting selection of what purviews might oppose what Titanrealms.

  1. Not the question asker, so I may be wrong, but I think the question may not be "Where is Animal on that list of purviews?" but instead "Hey, I just read through both those lists of purviews and Animal isn't a Purview that opposes any of them"

If the latter is not the case, I will then ask, why isn't Animal any one of those opposing purviews? And what Titanrealms might a pure-Animal-Purview-strike be super effective against?

    1. Ah, I see. Well, while it's easy to figure out what might oppose Animal - things that kill animals, like Death and Health (disease) - Animal itself is more difficult. It deals with a certain class of living things that incorporates a lot of different kinds of creatures rather than being an easy, vaguely uniform element.

We don't have anything in particular that jumps out at us (thus the lack of weaponized Animal on those tables), but if you're looking for something to shoot in the face with Animal, you could maybe go for Fertility, since animal life tends to trump plant life, or Death, using animals as representatives of life.

  2. Weaponized Animals? Would one of my players' vague idea of helping defend the solar barque in Duat using Typhonian mongooses count?
He chose that animal then he saw the Boon for making Typhonians afterward. I'm still considering whether a giant mongoose would be more useful against Apep than any other giant animal, but it's a fun mental image either way. :)

    1. Ha! I bet the typhonian mongoose has some mad Dex to match the mad snake-Dex Apep is running, so it's probably better than most at getting hold of the monster. Killing it, of course, is another matter. ;)

    2. I doubt killing it would be an issue. If Typhonian Animals were all that was needed to put Titan Avatars in check, there wouldn't be much of a Titan War would there?
However, having watched many clips of a mongoose in action against various snakes, I can guarantee Apep would get the shit aggravated out of it. You can almost see snakes ready to just throw up their (metaphorical) hands and quit out of frustration. :)
